Abstract
The introduction to the edited book ‘Curriculum Challenges and Opportunities in a Changing World: Transnational Perspectives in Curriculum Inquiry’, this chapter introduces contemporary issues and debates in the transnational curriculum field, as engaged through the IAACS internationalisation project at the time of its recent triennial World Curriculum Studies Conference, held in Melbourne, Australia in late 2018. With a focus on the challenges and opportunities ahead for the field, the chapter outlines the changing circumstances the field finds itself in. Specific areas of focus include new work in decolonising the curriculum, knowledge questions and curriculum dilemmas, and enduring issues of nation and history in curriculum studies, as well as the concept of transnational curriculum inquiry itself. Opening the book and overviewing the book’s following 18 chapters, overall this introductory chapter encapsulates the field in its present form and proposes future directions for contemporary international curriculum scholarship.
