Abstract
Why do contemporary Germans emigrate? This paper provides insights into the reasons for contemporary German emigration by providing findings from two innovative and interdisciplinary studies. The studies, which were conducted by a German migrant to Australia and New Zealand, explored qualitatively the experiences and interpretations of German migrants to Australia and New Zealand throughout the migration process (pre-migration, emigration and immigration) to reconstruct the migration process and to unearth the meaning migration holds for migrants themselves.
