    Abstract

Background: Seafood is the primary dietary source for elongated omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Adequate maternal intake of these fats is essential for optimal fetal development and may also protect against other adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. Many women are confused and conflicted regarding the safety verses benefits of consuming seafood during pregnancy.
