Abstract

This is a series of seven photographic works that features a human/non-human figure in various urban and non-urban locations. Part car-seat cover, part human, the Yeti is a performative figure that speaks to the embodied hybridity of the contemporary human condition and the complex more-than-human and cyborg relations of 21st century life. The series, was selected for two community-facing exhibitions aimed at exploring the animal body and representations of multi-species relations, including ‘Animastructions’ (Tuggeranong Arts Centre) and Beauty and Beasts (Belconnen Arts Centre). One work in the series, Yeti on the Run, was selected as a finalist in the nationally prestigious Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Prize (Gold Coast Art Gallery) and was awarded Second place in the 2018 Canberra Contemporary Art Space Annual Prize (‘Choose Your Own Adventure’).
